Endearing! Woman Forced To Share Complete Life Story When Potential Employer Asked About Resume

The job was a temp agency. I had reached out to them weeks prior upon losing my job as I knew they had a Bilingual position open. I decided to entertain the agency as after having almost 30 jobs and working my way up from barely over $1/hr to almost $20/hr without a college degree. This is barely livable. It’s a great accomplishment for some and looked down upon as not good enough by others but dammit I have worked too hard to ever take a pay cut. I asked for a first shift job, paying $19/hr or close. The recruiter took a few moments to cough (I highly fux with them if it was from a dab pen), apologized, then started telling me about this great third shift $16/hr or something position which sounded okay but was… not what I had asked for? I inquired if the admin position was still available to which I was transferred to their supervisor as they manage that position. I had to leave a voicemail.

At the end of the month, many weeks later I would get a generic temp agency text asking if I was still job hunting. I responded with my interest in the admin job as I have zero interest in going back to manufacturing. This is where it gets interesting.

I get a phone call from a (let’s call them) recruiter. They tell me the Bilingual admin job I had applied for had originally been filled, but for some reason was open again. (Interesting, okay, yeah job turnover happens.) The recruiter then told me the process for my interview would be contingent on my email interview.

The email interview consisted of:

  • Explaining two of my last three jobs
    • One of which was a college writing job the professor ended up having an investigation over my misfiring and not paying students
    • Explain every job on my resume (almost 30 !) – “… tell me what you liked/didn’t like about each job and how each job ended.”
    • Explain the reasoning for all my short-term, temp/contract positions
    • Why I would love to work at ThisTookMeHours IShouldntHaveSpent and why I want to click my heels for them
    • A couple references
    • And finally, what do you look for in a job.

The next day I saw they made a new Indeed post for a part-time adjacent position offering $15-$17/hr and used a new writing structure. I had set my expectations down as minimum $17/hr for the type of work.

Not long after I had sent the email did I regret it. Dude, I just gave this job my life story. For what? To make it to the maybe next step?

Employers are getting so have been so demanding I don’t regret putting my foot down as I have been with some Indeed messages.

Congrats! You’re just read an archived piece from 2022.

The recruiter followed me to my job-at-the-time and ghosted me when I was waiting for my second interview. Very professional.
